Encouraging Poll Numbers

Check out this article over at Liberty Maven that shows Bob Barr polling well for so early in the general-election race. He's already at 10% in New Hampshire and running at high single digits in many other states. Just a little better showing and Bob will have a strong case for inclusion in the presidential debates, and, if he can do that, he'll have by far the best vehicle to get his pro-liberty message out there--a message that John McCain cannot hope to match, especially when the target audience is pro-liberty Republicans.

UPDATE: Here's a list of states where Barr is polling already at 5% or better. Thanks to Lew Rockwell.

What percentage of votes do you think Bob Barr will receive in the fall?

I think it depends on whether Barr can get into the debates. If he can, Perot-like numbers are within reach. Debates are how Perot caught on fire in 1992. In fact, if he hadn't revealed himself for a nutball halfway thru when he temporarily dropped out, Perot could have polled much higher than the 19 or so percent that he ultimately got. Barr will not have any such meltdown. He's a steady guy. So if he can just get into the damn debates, he could do very well. That's going to require getting the national numbers up over 10% in order to get into the first debate and then we go from there....

Have you heard the news about Bob Barr attending that Al Gore event?

Yikes, what a mistake!

I was for Barr in the first place, but after this, well....

This had to send some of his supporters looking real good at what he stands for--I know it made me.

Don't get too freaked out. I think that Barr knows that his best strategy *has* to involve inclusion in the debates. Gore supposedly wants him in, so I think Barr was throwing Gore a (very very small) bone. I don't think anyone needs to worry that Bob is suddenly a Gore eco-warrior.
